Handbags are the favorite pastime of any designer. First, they are a great addition to the main collection. Secondly, they sell well and are one of the most significant items of income of any design house. Therefore, bags are always given a lot of attention at the shows, they are sent to the fashion influencers, stylists and stars.
By the summer season it turned out that global trends have expanded so much that in fashion there are absolutely different models for all tastes. So, vintage is on the runway with the kitsch of the noughties, semicircular shapes with geometric, and bags of small size with a huge shopper and hobo. And in terms of textures, colors and prints, there is a riot: leather, raffia, fabric, crystals, bright candy shades, muted prints and minimalistic restraints.
But this often doesn’t make it easy, it just makes it harder. The variety of choice forces us to ask a lot of questions: will it go out of fashion? will it fit to everything? how to fit the bag with a print into the image? what size to choose? and so on…
So I propose to train our eyes and see what models will be the hits of this summer (and the next few) and how they are already being worn by famous street-styleers and celebrities.
Let’s start with the traditional summer bags – they can be handbags, bags of raffia, straw, with fringe or linked in macramé technique. You can wear them not only on the beach, but also in city conditions with suits, jeans with kimono and dresses. Bags made of brightly colored materials, as if made by hand, are now at the peak of popularity: such a bag will be relevant for a couple of seasons. If you want a more durable option, consider a straw bag, they are always appropriate in summer.
Bright miniature and printed handbags, often a few pieces, were shown in the collections of Resort by many brands: Brandon Maxwell, Diesel, Moschino, Gucci and Chanel are among them. So it is safe to buy them and wear them for several seasons. It is also great that these bags can be worn individually or added to larger bags.
If you want a bag that’s small, functional and still one of the centerpieces of the look, you can consider options like Dries Van Noten, By Far or Acne Studios offers.
Big bags – hobos, shopper, soft wicker are as topical in summer as they are in winter. Only in one case we have with us a scarf and gloves, in the other – sunscreen, swimsuit, sunglasses and headgear.
